Women & Flamingos
Women and Flamingos, created in 2015, is a series of six charcoal on paper drawings ranging from 65cm to 2m.
Following a female protagonist; the series use the face of Great British Bake-Off contestant Ruby Tandoh taken from the TV and bodies made up from classical masterpieces and google searches.
Exploring perceptions of ownership, power, celebrity and victimhood as they relate to gender in British society, the series scrutinises Amartey's own relationship with women.
